Kate is a sharp-witted lobbyist who doesn’t waste her time on candidates who can’t get elected, stay elected, and, above all, remain loyal to her clientele. Representative Sydney Millsap has a more idealistic approach to politics, which Kate fears may cost Millsap a prosperous political career. But when Millsap’s high-minded principles prove surprisingly resilient in Washington, Kate faces an unexpected dilemma: back the system or what she actually believes in?

And was that really the judge and defense attorney—or was it Charlotte and Wilbur?

Act One, “On the Harmful Effects of Tobacco,” is a monologue by Anton Chekhov featuring musical interludes by David Amram and starring David Quinones.

Act Two, “A Water Bird Talk,” is a cleverly comic modern mono-opera composed by Dominick Argento and starring acclaimed baritone Joseph Han.

Featuring a 12-piece orchestra conducted by Micah Gleason.

A two-act musical revue, Songs for a New World pulls together 16 songs written by a young Jason Robert Brown. Each centers on the same theme: the moment of decision before a great personal transformation. Genres range from “country-ish” to pop to gospel, with characters just as varied: anxious explorers, a wonder-filled pregnant woman, a frustrated Mrs. Claus, a Revolutionary War flagmaker and many more. Said Brown: “It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.”

Comic Potential is a seriously funny love story, a romantic sci-fi lesson in comedy set in a not-too-distant future when actors are replaced by robots—or, rather, “actoids.” One of these androids develops emotions, and an aspiring writer falls in love with her. But, where he sees potential, others see only a malfunction—leading to the question: What makes us human?
