You'll go back to a simpler time and place, 1938 in western North Carolina, as you become a member of the congregation of Mount Pleasant Church where laughter rolls in like the morning fog off the Blue Ridge Mountains. Pastor Mervin Oglethorpe, in an attempt to move his flock into the "modern world," has invited the Sanders Family Singers to the church's first ever Saturday Night Sing. You'll laugh till you cry, and then shed a real tear or two as Burl, Vera, their three children, and Burl's black sheep brother, Stanley, share their stories with you. They'll delight you with some of the best old time gospel tunes ever written as they sing and play their way through the evening. Your feet will start to tappin', your hands will start to clappin', and you'll just have to sing along!
Once you've experienced it, you'll understand why Smoke on the Mountain is one of the most produced shows in the country. It's totally beguiling and wildly funny!

Miss June Sanders (Katie Hart of Troy) captivates Pastor Oglethorpe (DJ Stevens of Defreestville) as she signs the lyrics to the old time gospel songs her family sings and plays throughout a laugh-filled evening at Mount Pleasant Church.

The hilarity of our story is balanced by a tense moment between Burt (Steve Keller of Poestenkill) and his brother, Stanley (Gene Langley of E. Poestenkill), who has recently been released from prison to rejoin the singing Sanders Family.

Tempers, as well as hairdos, are frazzled following a minor bus accident as the Sanders Family Singers travel to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church for its first ever Saturday Night Sing. To top it all off, Vera (Karen Welthy of Delmar) is shocked to hear that her twin daughter, Denise, (Brigid Lynch Stegemoeller of Poestenkill) ran away from home to audition for the role of Scarlet.

The Sanders twins, Denise and Dennis (Brigid Lynch Stegemoeller and Peter Keller, both of Poestenkill) with older sister June (Katie Hart of Troy) are ready to start making music with their parents and Uncle Stanley at the first ever Saturday Night Sing at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in NC in 1938.
